History of Paikgachha Upazila:
Naming:  Paikgachha is an ancient and famous upazila of Khulna district. Paikgachha upazila is located 65 km south of Khulna district headquarters. "Saral Dighi", Saral Khan's house and rice washing pond next to Kachari and Thana pond on the other side of the road still exist as witnesses of the times. A few villages witnessed the work of the soldiers or employees of Saral Khan. The name of the area where Saral Khan lived is Saral. 'Gopalpur', the abode of the summer shepherds near Gadaipur, where the troops had put up a barricade against the robbers at Garhkat, it was called Garhpar, the Captive's (Bandi) residence, is called Bandikati, and the area where the lamp-lighting staff was stationed there used to be ‘Batikhali’, the area where the pike-barkandajas used to guard the pike-barkandajas by climbing the trees and the lake which was dug by the people-laskar is still carrying the fame of symbol of Saral Kha  as ‘Laskar’ village. This is how Paikgachha Upazila was named. Paikgachha Thana was established on 22/04/1872 AD. Then Paikgachha was established as 'Unnit Thana' in 1982 and as 'Upazila' in 1985. Paikgachha Upazila is located near the world famous mangrove Sundarbans. It's distance from Khulna district headquarters is about 65 km. Paikgachha municipality belongs to "B" class. It's total population is 2,47,983. The Muslim population 1,66,564, the Hindu population is 80,332 and the Christian population is 1,087. The total area of ​​this upazila is 383.87 sq km.
